Wednesday saw the return of the biggest night in British music. Yep, you guessed it, it was the BRIT Awards 2014. This year saw the biggest names in music rejoice at London’s o2 Arena. With resident host James Corden, revved up and ready to go this years awards ceremony sure didn’t disappoint.

This year saw some of the biggest names in music perform live. Bruno Mars sang his feel good hit Treasure, accompanied by his usual ensemble of band members, which conveniently switched into a perfectly synchronised group of dancers. We were treated to a spectacular performance from a gold bra wearing, drum beating Ellie Goulding. We also saw a Cleopatra inspired performance from Katy Perry singing her latest smash hit Dark Horse and Beyoncé dazzled in a gorgeous green gown, channeling her inner mermaid while singing new single XO.

Some of the winners on the night included, Bastille, One Direction, Lorde and David Bowie. Since David Bowie couldn’t be present to collect his award, in true Bowie fashion he sent supermodel Kate Moss on his behalf. Kate donned Bowie’s iconic Ziggy Stardust playsuit, whilst reading out Bowie’s acceptance speech where he finished on the controversial note of, ‘Thank you very, very much and Scotland – stay with us.’

The major turning point of the night was Alex Turner’s acceptance speech for the bands win of Best Album. Turner went on a rant about how rock’n’roll will never die “Yeah, that rock’n’roll, it seems like it’s faded away sometimes, but it will never die. And there’s nothing you can do about it.” In true rock ‘n’ roll style he finished his speech by dropping the microphone on the floor.

Pharrell Williams and legendary Nile Rodgers closed the show singing Pharrell’s number 1 hit Happy. Whilst the star was still wearing that Vivienne Westwood hat, which is clearly catching on as comedian Keith Lemon also chose the hat to complete his outfit for the evening.

This years award ceremony was quite possibly one of the best yet, I just can’t wait to see what they pull out of the bag for next year.
