The stage was set for a weekend of music, drinking and dancing at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The weather was likely to be a scorcher and with both Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z headlining, as well as the likes of Miguel, Rita Ora, Trey Songz, and many more gracing both the main and supporting stages, it was safe to say I was pretty excited!
Iggy Azalea, particularly stood out to me as she danced around the stage in a printed knicker shorts and crop top combo, her latest single Bounce proving to be quite the crowd pleaser. One of my favourite acts of the weekend though, had to be Snoop Dogg! The mix of his old songs and his new really got the whole crowd singing along with him, getting us all warmed up for Justin Timberlake.
Right on time Justin graced the stage in none other than his Suit & Tie. Accompanied by his band of musicians and back up singers, the Tennessee Kids, his performance had a touch of class about it. With everyone on stage dressed to the nines and Justin whipping out all his best moves, it really was an amazing performance. Justin sung his classic hits Cry Me a River, Like I Love You and Senorita and just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Jay-Z joined Justin on stage during Suit & Tie, as the crowd went insane. It really was a great finish to the first day of Wireless.
I returned to the Olympic Park the following day, somehow the sun was even hotter, and the crowds even bigger. With the girls donning denim shorts, neon crops and trainers, while the guys rocked their short shorts, graphic tees and in some cases bare chests, this summers hottest trends were definitely out in force.
After the performances I’d witnessed, I was pretty sure that today was going to be even better. I was right. Even though at times the weather was excruciatingly hot, and the queues for the bars and toilets extremely long, I was not going to let it dampen my high spirits.
Calvin Harris definitely kept the party going despite the heat wave. Head lining the Pepsi Max Stage, Calvin had the middle of Stratford feeling like one big rave! Mixing his classic hits like Bounce, Feel So Close and many more, he really did get everyone in the party mood.
As the sun began to set over the Olympic Park, the graphics and stage were prepared, we all knew who was coming next. The screams were phenomenal as Jay-Z came to the stage, his thick gold chain shone loosely around his neck as his voice filled the park. He worked his way through the hits, Empire State of Mind, 99 Problems and Encore, loads of old and new material. His set was simple but powerful. By the end everyone in the crowd had suddenly become a rapper. Just when I thought the weekend was over Justin Timberlake had to return the favour and joined Jay-Z on stage to perform their new single Holy Grail. It really was a great end to my time at an even greater festival. Wireless 2013 certainly didn’t disappoint! Since festivals are pricey, I guess I’d better start saving for next year!
