It has been confirmed that Lil’ Wayne and Drake will be collaborating on an album once they get their solo efforts out of the way. This news following the initial success and reception of veteran Jay-Z and Kanye West’s collaborative effort ‘Watch the Throne’.

Watch the Throne is arguably the biggest hook up since Jay and R Kelly’s ‘Best of Both Worlds’ back in ’02, or their ’04 re-hook up, ‘Unfinished Business’, if you want to count that which mainly consisted of unreleased tracks from Best of Both Worlds. Although both albums didn’t get the best critical reception they still sold and were a relative commercial success showing the power of getting two huge solo names together to do a joint album.

Of course since then there have been several others, more notably Nas and Damian Marley, but they however lack the star stature and pedigree of the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye. We’ve also more recently seen Gucci Mane and Wacka Flocka hook up on Ferrari Boys, as unofficially endorsed by Miley Cyrus. They too lack the stature and pedigree but however show that this may be the new thing to do.

With Lil’ Wayne and Drake’s hook up on the horizon could this be the bucking new trend? Only time will tell. With that said perhaps the only other names left big enough to create a frenzy beyond the typical hip hop fan are Eminem and 50 Cent. Prediction? Perhaps!

I love creating and being creative. I also love helping people develop. My desire is to help young people find their place in life and fulfil their potential.
