A sophisticated sound sitting on the sensibilities of intimacy and honesty, one can’t help but marvel at Charlene Soraia’s expressive and enchanting melodies. A fusion of folk with tones of jazz, her sound echoes the ambience of Simone White crossed with Corinne Bailey Rae and entwined with a touch of Zero 7.
Charlene Soraia is yet another product of the highly reputable Brit School. A self taught musician prior to attending the school, Charlene sounds accomplished in every aspect of her creative abilities. Drenched in talent her guitar skills are up there with seasoned session guitarists and her voice is simply mesmerising to say the least. The versatility and excellence of her voice is especially audible in the Siren like falsetto at the beginning, and towards the end of her song ‘When We Were Five’.
Like Simone White, who found some popularity after her song ‘The Beep Beep Song’ appeared in an advert, so too has Charlene Soraia. The defining moment in Charlene’s budding career thus far came when her cover of The Calling’s 2001 hit ‘Wherever You Will Go’ was featured in the Twinings ‘Gets You Back to You’ advert. With the tagline “Gets you back to you,” It’s little wonder the specialty tea makers saw her version of ‘Wherever you are’ as the perfect song for their campaign. Charlene’s vocals and musicianship do just that, it gets you back to you as her voice takes you on an enchanting escapade.
‘Wherever You Are’ was released on October 5th as a single and peaked at number 3 in the UK charts. A limited edition EP has also been released by her label which preludes her debut album, ‘Moonchild’, which is set for release on 21st November.
