Home » Spotlight » Artist of the Month: Ed Sheeran

Potentially the definition of versatility, Ed Sheeran has the flows, the vocals, the instrumentation and most of all the writing to slot into pretty much any genre. He literally does it all, sings, plays guitar, beat boxes and raps (although he claims it isn’t rapping). With the September 12th release of his first album which debuted at number 1, having sold more than the top 5 put together, Ed’s career looks set to flourish.

Perhaps the most extraordinary thing about this young artist is his writing. It somehow reflects that of a 40 year old established song writer with a wealth of life experience behind him, whilst still having the edge of youth. At a mere 20 years of age he demonstrates extremely mature lyricism where his intricate use of language and subject matters resonate deep in the minds of listeners. Doing a little speculative maths, one can assume that he may have even been only 18 when writing some of the tracks on the album, making it all the more spectacular.

Making his name over the internet, the multi-talented Ed has demonstrated the power of creating a following online, which has clearly materialised in sales. This clip from SB.TV is perhaps the first a lot of people seen of him just over 18 months ago, and it’s little wonder so many have been blown away by his talent.

Hi, Ed Sheeran’s album is called Plus, but is written with the symbol + as opposed to the actual word. Hope that helps.
