It’s difficult these days to come across a song that blares out a style of rock that is respected in all forms of genres. Birth Of Joy have been raved and recommended by Classic Rock Magazine with this new single they have beckoned upon us. For the last three years they have relentlessly toured over 450 dates, with many in and around Europe and America. The Dutch three piece is made up of Kevin Stunnenberg (vocals, guitar), Bob Hogenelst (drums, backing vocals) and Gertjan Gutman (organ, bass).

You only need to get into the first 20 seconds to know what is in store for any listener. It’s a rather doomed, but exciting sound that build with each bar from the little aggressive organ spats to mix with the bass and guitar nicely. It’s definitely something unique to have an organ is such a diverse and aggressive tone to really counterpart the other instruments. Although some may find it in a funny state of mind, these guys know what they’re doing and they know it works to bring peoples attention.

One of the key parts to this track is the build up to the chorus. When Stunnenberg is howling “no way back”, his pitch increases and gets higher to the point you think ‘now is the chorus’, when he stops and the music continues to build. It completely throws you off to then question when the chorus is actually arriving. This is a clever motive that really goes against your instincts in build ups for most songs. The influences of Led Zeppelin and the vocals of Robert Plant are pin pointed in the chorus. It’s as if Led Zeppelin was mixed with Deep Purple and the energy of The Who’s ‘My Generation’.

I would agree with Classic Rock with the championing of this track, it’s got a lot of character within the different sections of which none are the same. From the fast paced snare drum build ups, to the real stupendous guitar solo. Though the organ gets lost at the loudest points at times, it’s always something that punches it’s way through the sound.

Birth Of Joy are definitely going to be peoples joy of 2016 with their aggressive, but catchy rock rhythms.
